Dorstenia zanzibarica is a native of Zanzibar Island, Kenya, and Tanzania. The perennial succulent belongs to the Moraceae family and is relatively fast-growing. This rhizomatous Dorstenia plant is commonly known as Dorstenia holtziana or Dorstenia volkensii. The stem is erect, leafy with a globose or tuberous shape; it is branched with an oblong or elliptical shape with tiny green or yellow triangular flowers growing on lateral inflorescences. The Dorstenia zanzibarica grows up to a height of 50 to 75 cm with a medium sun. This plant starts to bloom at any time, a few months after germination. It prefers a frost-free climate for proper growth.

The plant bears triangle-shaped tiny flowers colored green or yellow on inflorescences at any time of the year.

Watering and Feeding
It prefers medium watering during the growing season. However, between waterings, the soil should be slightly dry. The plant should be kept dry during winters, especially after the leaves die, or else the plant will rot. Fertilizers can be used once during the growing season.

Dorstenia zanzibarica should be planted in porous & acidic potting soil. You can add perlite, pumice, or vulcanite to the soil.

The plant is hardy in zone 12. The safe temperature is 59°F (15°C) and above. Besides, this succulent is not frost-hardy.

Dorstenia plant thrives well in medium sun exposure but make sure it is placed in bright light. The stem prefers shade, and the leaves love the sun.
